i don’t think of the movie Titanic first and foremost as a cinematically groundbreaking romance film because I mean
Jack didn’t initially go after Rose thinking, ‘hell yes, i totally foresee myself having sex with this high class dame in a steamy model t’
he saw a seventeen year old girl about to kill herself
when I watch it, I sit there thinking, yeah, kate winslet is a really attractive person and I bet Jack was super pleased to get to have a relationship with Rose but it became totally apparent especially at the bitter end that
Jack stuck around to ensure that she’d be safe from herself and the actual agony that her life brought her
it’s just such an incredible display of humanity in that character that Jack could see a girl born into a society so much higher than his and still recognize that her depression was completely valid and that he would dedicate literally the rest of his life to ensure that she would be physically and mentally safe
