my number one recommendation is fullmetal alchemist. I would start with the first 2003 series. it’s my favorite show ever
flcl is also really, really amazing everything by gainax is amazing actually
speaking of gainax, neon genesis evangelion is a must, yeah, actually go watch that one first because it’s typically referred to as the most influential anime ever

eureka 7 is pretty darn good
if you haven’t heard of an anime called denno coil, I think you should seriously consider watching it because it’s totally underrated and is just really great
some people hate haruhi suzumiya but i actually really enjoyed it and the disappearance movie is PHENOMENAL
some other favorites are tekkon kinkreet, panty and stocking, hanamaru kindergarten, clannad (specifically afterstory), ghost hound
